Restylane®

Restylane® is designed to smooth wrinkles, sculpt lips and shape facial contours. It is a clear, synthetic gel made with hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that is found throughout your body. It carries little risk of allergic reaction. The most common areas for treatment are the glabellar lines (between the eyebrows) and the nasolabial folds (from the root of the nose to the angle of your mouth). With its unique ability to bind with water, Restylane remains in your skin for many months.

Sclerotherapy

This is the treatment of choice for spider and varicose veins. (Lasers are not even close to being as effective) The procedure takes 10-20 minutes and patients may resume all of their normal activities after each treatment session. Dr. Buinewicz will examine you and plan a course of treatment for your specific problem.

Sculptra™

Sculptra™ is a new injectable product used to counteract the loss of fat beneath the skin (a condition called lipoatrophy). Sculptra is injected into the deep dermis layer of the skin to improve the appearance of sunken cheeks, hollow eyes, indentations and wrinkles. Its main component is an alpha hyrdoxy acid that has been used for 20 years in surgical products such as dissolvable sutures. There is no need for allergy testing. Clinical trials have shown that the benefits of Sculptra treatments can last up to two years.

Thermage™

Thermage™ is a quick, easy and non-invasive alternative to a face lift. Using painless radiofrequency energy, Thermage "lifts" and tightens loose and sagging skin to restore youthful vigor to patients' faces. The Thermage device stimulates collagen production and temporarily reduces wrinkles while keeping the skin surface cool and comfortable. There is no incision or recovery time. Results last about two years—much longer than you can expect from BOTOX® or tissue fillers like collagen.

Artefill®

ArteFill® is a non-absorbable wrinkle filler used to correct smile lines. It is the only FDA-approved injectable smile line treatment of its kind. ArteFill uses a unique dual-acting formula made of a combination of 20% ArteFill Precision-Filtered Microspheres™ and 80% ArteFill Purified Bovine Collagen™. The result is the immediate visible correction of facial wrinkles and folds in as few as one or two treatment sessions with no downtime.

As we age, the natural collagen and elastin fibers supporting our skin break down, creating wrinkles. The ArteFill microspheres replace these aging fibers and provide permanent support and volume to the skin, making ArteFill outlast virtually any other wrinkle filler.

Perlane™

Perlane is an injectable filler used to treat deep facial lines, augment the lips and contour the cheeks and chin. Made by Q-Med, the Swedish company that produces Restylane®, Perlane contains purified hyaluronic acid, a sugar found naturally in the body that works with collagen to keep the skin smooth and supple. It is hypoallergenic and so does not require a pre-treatment skin test. With its unique ability to bind with water, Perlane continues to perform up to 60% longer than collagen.

Camouflage Cosmetics

Plastic surgery can leave bruising, swelling and scars that keep you indoors even after you feel well enough to return to work or other activities. Camouflage cosmetics can hide these post-surgical side effects in both women and men and help you resume your regular schedule as quickly and seamlessly as possible.

The appropriate cosmetics for you may be specially recommended by your doctor or purchased commercially in a large department store; sometimes, ordinary makeup products are enough. In any case, the cosmetics selected should be hypoallergenic and fragrance-free. It may be possible to apply your cosmetics as soon as a day or two after your procedure. Check with your doctor to determine when is safe to do so.

Camouflage cosmetics are used for three purposes: concealing, color correcting and contouring. Concealers are thick, opaque but creamy foundations that hide bruises and incision lines. They should be blended into foundation, color correctors or eye makeup around the eyes to avoid build-up in the delicate skin creases there. Color correctors blend post-surgical marks with your normal skin tone. (Lavender shades work well for yellows, while green counteracts redness.) Lastly, light and dark contour products hide swelling by creating the appearance of highlights and shadows. Contour products are most popular after nose or facial implant surgery, although they can be used anywhere on the face.

It may take some practice before you can apply camouflage cosmetics so they look natural. Have patience, and be sure to blend the cosmetics so that you avoid light or dark streaks across your face.

To keep your skin healthy and clean after your surgery, cosmetic products should be removed every night. Gently remove the makeup in three steps, first using a cleansing cream, then an alcohol-free toner on a cotton ball, and finally a moisturizer appropriate for your skin type.

Electrolysis

Electrolysis is the only proven method for permanently removing unwanted hair quickly, safely and with little discomfort. It is especially helpful for hair on the face, arms or hands. A tiny probe is inserted into the hair follicle, where it delivers radiofrequency energy that heats the hair matrix – the “growth center” – until it coagulates. The hair is then removed with forceps. Permanent hair removal is usually achieved after a series of weekly treatments lasting 15 minutes to an hour.
